If a player is signed by a Div 2 team and is ineligible for his freshman year.... then gets released before he plays a single game and is signed by a Div 3 team, does he lose a year of eligibility or does he still qualify to be a 5 year player?

Good question!

Just a guess, but I suspect he still gets to play 4 years

the player will still show the ineligible year in his history I'd expect, so he should still get his SR/5 season to play his 4th year, but I'm just guessing really - I've never experienced it first hand...
