Worth jumping to D1 if you can't go to a Big 6? Topic

In Tark I am currently at Nebraska Wesleyan in D3. I have had a number of good seasons and I was looking at making the jump to D1 if I was qualified for a job that made sense.

Is it worth moving if you don't make it to a big 6 conference?

I am qualified/longshot for lots of MAC teams and other smaller conference teams and the highest prestige is D+.

If I stay at NWU and have another 2nd round or sweet 16 run will I qualify for better jobs or is this where it peaks out at a D3 to D1 jump?

You will not qualify for a BCS conf for probably another 10 seasons. I'm only qualified for the very low end BCS conf in Tark.

With more d3 success you could get a little better jobs. But if your goal is to play d1 and reach the big 6 or near level conferences you may as well take the leap up now. It would take some more final fours and better to see a significant bump in quality of programs.

That is what I was curious about. I rather keep my NWU team and go after a D1 with one of the D2 teams I have.

Thanks Tiany and congrats on the NC.

I think it is 100% worth going to a low D1 school.

D1 is a different animal than D3.  a C- school in the Big 10 is really hard to turn around.  Its easier in many ways to consistently make the NT from the Big Sky conference or some other mostly sim low-D1 program.  Plus the coach resume logic values a 1st rnd NT loss in a 22-8 D1 season as at least as valuable than a 30 win, D3 NT title season.

The only time I think its dumb to go to D1 is if you only qualify for a D- school.  If you can get a C baseline D+ prestige school, go for it.

My point is if your goal is to land a BCS team, it's better to jump straight to d1, do well there for 4-6 seasons, and then jump into a C- BCS team. It would be extremely difficult for you to jump into a BCS conf from D3 unless you win a couple of NCs consecutively.

Not trying to be rude here, but  I'm not sure how the OP would think that his resume would qualify him for even lower end BCS jobs straight from D3.  Has the job process changed that much?

I have never looked at the jump straight from D3, that is why I was asking. I wasn't sure if this is the highest you could get (D+ prestige D1 jobs) .
