This guy should shoot a lot right? Topic

So D3 Tark just rolled over and my JR PG who was rated 727 is now rated 747 to start his senior year.

The question I have and I know it has been asked before but should I have this guy not shooting any 3's so he can get lots of free throws? He is a 44% career three point shooter and only a 64% free throw shooter.

I know I will need to maximize his use because my team will be relatively young. I am also pretty excited because this is the highest rated player I have had and I have multiple D2 teams who have had success. He still has average growth potential in rebounding.

I appreciate any thoughts on how I can make his SR year special

With C+ FT, 1 LP, 97 PER, and great speed and ball handling I would let him bomb away from 3. I think it would be best to start him at 0 and then go to +1 if hes shooting well.

That's a D3 player?!?!?!

assuming he's not your most athletic player....+2 all the way

At least +1 maybe go +2 if he does well with +1.

Last year he was set at +2 and 89 for 186 (47.8%)

I wouldn't change it.

Why would you want to put chains on a guy like that. Set him free to shoot the three(+2)!

I'd probably go +1 on that guy assuming you have one or 2 other guys who can shoot some inside...

He'd be a defensive liability at D2.

I think most D2 teams would be happy to have him.  stamina average too, but a shooter is always a bonus.

I'd put him at +2.  there are probably some good basketball sabermetrics that would shed some light on things but I don't know any off hand.

I have seen some guys use EFG% (effective FG%) which takes into account the increased value of 3 point shot... or True Shooting %, which takes into account all FG and FTs

EFG%:
[Field Goals Made + (.5 * 3-Pointers Made)] / Field Goals Attempted

TS%
True Shooting Percentage; the formula is Points / (2 * true shooting attempts).
True shooting attempts = FGA + 0.44 * FTA.

There is also PER...player efficiency rating developed by John Hollinger from ESPN

I would take that defensive "liability" on any of my D2 teams, to include those that run M2M.  I'm guessing about 99.37% of all D2 coaches would tend to agree.

i would take the **** out of that defensive liability. probably would have won a national championship either of the last two years with that dude on my d2 team.

its somewhat amazing that d2 schools allow these players to slip to d3. i realize in some cases, they are high work ethic players who got lucky, with +50 per, + 40 in some other categories. but still. seems like they would have looked good enough for someone to toss in a few evals, and then went for them with all the high/high potentials or whatever.

I dont think 49 defense is really a defensive liability either. Its below average sure but not bad enough to offset the offensive numbers.

So the general consensus is this guy is a stud and I will run him at +2 and see how what happens. I am going to need him to score 20 points and be efficient to have a great year.
