recruiting to fit my scheme Topic

So as I play more and gain some experience, i've had a few thoughts come into my head.

Recently, I have gone to defense as the biggest priority. I have the most athletic and best defensive team in my conference right now with a great scorer to help me put teams away. I primarily run slowdown to keep those good defenders in and because i don't have a great high powered offense.

Next year I will be looking to recruit a PF and C as my main freshman. Since I run the slowdown so much, I've been thinking rebounding is not a very important stat for me. As long as my big men are not terrible at rebounding, the limited possessions should keep me from giving up a lot of offensive rebounds.

Basically I'm thinking of just getting the best defenders at these positions, high DEF/ATH decent SPD, and whatever rebounding they have should work out fine. I'm looking at considering players with 50-60 REB if they can play great defense.

Will this come back to bite me?

50-60 reb to start, or 50-60 once they've maxed out? If it's the latter, I think that's too low.

Also, don't tie yourself into running slowdown. Some games it makes sense, others it doesn't. Some teams lend themselves more to it, others don't. Perhaps more importantly, I don't really believe that you're thinking re: why you should run slowdown necessarily makes sense strategically, at least in the context of this game.

You say, "I primarily run slowdown to keep those good defenders in", but  is there a big dropoff? ... in fact, Golebieowski is a better defender than the guy in front of him. The real question to ask is how your depth compares with that of your opponents', and what the real drop off is on your team. But I certainly wouldn't pre-ordain that you're going to be running slowdown now and in future seasons. That's not optimum strategy.

Golebiowski is the better defender. Plus he is very athletic so i have him subbing in PG SG and SF. He could easily start but this way both players get a lot of minutes. After him, i have a weak defending center and freshman/sophomores with low IQ. So I wanna keep the starters around

I do occasionally run fast tempo if i wanna exploit a weak or shallow bench and try and get players fouled out. But i like to schedule a tough non-conference so it rarely happens at least to start.

Still, I think what he is saying is don't corner yourself into having to run a slowdown. I run it this season on my Milsaps squad because an absence in the recruiting cycle cost me a couple and I only have 9 players. But when I have 10 (and even this season against weaker opponents) I will refuse to run it unless they have a dynamite press.

You open yourself up to a smaller sample size biting you when a less talented team just gets lucky. That is far less likely at a regular or high tempo.

Even in the slowdown 50-60 is too low for your best rebounders. I like to have at least 2 mid-70's on my roster at all times when possible. The more the better.
