If I designate without waivers a minor leaguer on the 40 man who has a major league contract and all his options...

...nothing happens except he is removed from the 40 man, right?

He's still on my team, doesn't go through waivers, etc?

Yes, but he will suffer a demotion penalty, and it is usually pretty stiff from my experience

He's not on the minor league roster, meaning he can't play so he's in limbo. And I expect that means he doesn't accrue any service days. He'll suffer the same ratings decline as any unsigned FA would.

*edit* And the player will be released after 10 days, but you probably knew that.
