My weekly pitching fatigue question Topic

Yes, it is starting to become a tradition.

Ok. A theme league team - $80 million cap.

The ENTIRE pitching staff is at 89% or under, with some in the red after 22 games.

Now, I understanding damping, fatigue (to a point apparently) etc. But how mathematically can the WHOLE staff of 10 pitchers all be overused ? I drafted 1,384 IP. I put Stimmel and Cooper, two 200K guys in AAA though I have just called them up, put them in to start two straight games with the usual 170TPC pull at 1, no PH/PR everyone else on rest set-up. But they are pitchers 11 and 12.

The staff is

Coveleski 17
Leever 03
Summers 09

Nehf 19
Falkenberg 15
Karstens 06
Percival 96
McFarland 06
MacDougal 77
Milacki 88

Now, even assuming, which is quite possible, that I have set all the pitch counts too high, when some are pitching too many pitches, shouldn't that mean that others whose pitch counts I set too high are sitting down, grumbling about me letting so and so go another inning when they have too many pitches set but aren't even getting used ?

Instead everyone is overused. Now, the only other explanation I can think of is that I somehow managed to get a lot of pitchers with low PC/IP ratios. Even so.

Any advice, suggestions, or even the usual scathing criticisms (kidding) will be welcome. Thanks.

ps, I should mention that everything was going fine and the team was 8-2 until it had to play boogerlip's team. So it could be some weird kind of voodoo of something...

It looks like you started Nehf in 6/15 pm2 and thus were short on relief when you hit 6/16 am and got shelled. Also that Troy Percival is at this point looking more like a Mick Lewis than a Nathan Bracken (at least in the context of the ODI played on 12 March 2006). Leave the more precocious talents in AAA for a while to recover, increase the pitch counts of your starters, hope the draw sends you to petco in the near future, and that Percival remembers how to pitch.

Thank you (not so...) foolishfool.

Good advice, and yeah, Nehf spot starting was supposed to relieve pressure on the rotation, instead it only increased it on the bullpen.

I put Milacki and MacDougal in AAA for the moment and will have the two scrubs do some heavy lifting for a couple. Then, as you say, hope for pitchers' parks for a few days.
