I have a DII team thats currently in the recruiting stage, and i found a potential player that i wanted that showed up in my DI search.
I saw that he was considering someone, so I check their team and its a DIII A+ team.
So I thought I could contact him and recruit him, but I went ahead and sent out a call, and he sent the 'backup message'
So essentially the DIII team is on a higher prestige level than my DII D school?

Same or equal to, he probably all ready put some effort in.

I didnt think a DIII could pull a DI player.

D III team was probably high enough prestige that the kid showed near the top of his D II list. Probably would have been a regular D II player for most D II schools, OP's low prestige made him show as, I'm guessing, a low D I to him...

I wonder if the reecruit is within 10 miles of the DIII school. I once pulled down a kid at DIII that originally was on the DI list. He was 10 miles away.

I wonder what screen this player shows up on for the DIII team.

Also, when I pull a great player down by my D3 team, I immediately give them a campus visit and one or two home visits.  This prevents (or at least lessens) a D2 from coming in and stealing it from me.

I'll bet this player did show up on the D2 list by the A+ prestige D3 team. Otherwise, I have never been able to even be acknowledged by a D1 player, but i have only tried once or twice.

Within 70 miles or under you can pull down a low level D1 player from D3 sometimes. I used to do it quite often at Colorado College in Phelan.

I think it needs to be stated though that only the highest prestige D3 teams will be able to do this.  Wouldn't want a rookie coach at a C prestige D3 school trying this and wasting his money.

Yes, and cheaply.   I pulled down a 493 SG (along with two others) with my NYU team last season.   I filled 8 slots with 6 scholarships and STILL pulled down 3 guys.

Well yes and no, being within 70 miles of a recruit gives any school the ability to recruit slightly higher players than they normally would. I was not referencing that any D3 school could recruit a D1 guy within 70 miles.

The same goes for low level D1 schools, I have had C schools be able to recruit guys that I normally wouldn't expect because of the distance, it just slightly raises the 'pulldown range' for a given school (or who will flat out talk to you sometimes too).

Hopefully that clarifies it. If you aren't sure, send a coach call and see before you waste money trying to pull down because you won't get that eval money back.
