Throwing this out there to see if there is any/enough interest.

24 Team League - Standard WIS Format of 6 divisions of 4 teams - 8 playoffs spots

To Start:
We will have a 2 round draft. Random draw for 1st round order. 2nd round will be serpentine of 1st round.
Using the 1969 and 1993 seasons everyone will draft 2 teams, one from each year. Yes, we are drafting teams, not individual players.
You'll then make your 25 man roster using the players from your 2 teams. You must have both teams represented.
Any players on multiple teams due to inseason trades must use the correct partial season version for their team. If their is no partial season version for your team they are ineligible. Combined season versions are not allowed.

Season 2 and beyond:
Each year at the TD you'll choose 1 of your 2 teams to be a Keeper team and the other team being a Cut. If you Cut the team from 1969 then you'll draft a new team from 1970. If you cut the 1993 team then you'll draft a new one from 1994, and so on...
Draft order will be determined by end of season W/L records with worst/first to best/last order. Ties broken by random draw.

Sales Pitch: Using 1969 and 1993 to start will allow 24 seasons to be played before we run out of seasons as we should progress to the 1992 and 2016 seasons at that time. We'll have 4 extra teams to pick from with the 1993 season as there are 28 teams total that year. The 4 extra teams won't be used but it gives everyone some extra choices. That will be the case with the earlier year as well when we reach 1977 when we gain 2 more teams there. If you like quick drafts this is for you with only 2 rounds for the initial draft and only 1 round each year after that. You might think researching entire teams will be too much work but since everyone will have to draft from the same season as the one they cut from, it will keep it to about half of the teams to look through.Keeping 1 team will give everyone the chance to retain some of their core players every season. Yet having to Cut 1 team will give the weaker teams the chance to retool very quickly. It is very possible to see some teams go from worst to first in one off-season. So if you like progressives but hate the long rebuilding processes, this league should eliminate that.

This sounds really interesting, and I like the idea of a short draft.  Put me down, bheid.

Individual players arent kept, right? If I have the 1993 RedSox, and they have Joe Smith, and I keep that team, but in 1994 Joe Smith plays for the Yankees........I dont get to keep Smith - he belongs to whoever owns/drafts the 1994 Yankees, right?

That is correct.

Not much interest?

I like the idea of short drafts and being able to change half of your players each year. Plus I prefer the players from the 1969 and 1993 eras.

what if you kept the "two team" idea, but set it up for a 24 team league - 12 owners.  Each owner would have two teams in the league.  You could keep 1969 and 1993 as the base seasons, and have the 69 teams in the nl and 93 teams in the al - trades allowed within era, but not between eras (that would prevent owners trading with their own teams.

I don't know how much interest people would have in two teams - but this still keeps the basic premise of a progressive.

it could also be fun to mix up the leagues but still no cross-era trading.

you could even keep them "separate" for the initial draft only, allowing 94 teams to draft     1970 rookies and vice versa...or keep it unique.  70 can only draft from 70's pool.  only concern with that is with only 12 teams picking in each league, the 90's teams may improve quicker as they have more players to choose from...
