Recruiting - no response to phone call Topic

Place a phone call, $10 was spent, but didnt' receive a resposne.  I laways took that as a rejection.  Is that true?
I ask, because of the following:

I have an A- prestige in D3 Phelan.  Conference mate has a B+ prestige.
I tried to call a guy 1st cycle. $10 spent, but no response to call so I let him go.
Later, conference mate ends up signing the guy with a lower prestige.

I was 190 miles away, he was 65.  So...
Is the lack of a response not a rejection?
And/or was the under 70 miles advantage worth more than the small prestige difference such that he would talk to my conference mate but not to me?

Yes to everything you said

Sometimes they take your money and don't respond, that is a rejection.

And yes his distance made the difference and gave him access to a drop down player that you didn't have.

I always call the coach now because I've had this happen before.

It doesn't matter who you call.  Backup means he can be pulled down.  Anything else means you can't.

Distance was absolutely the factor.

Ok, so distance is more a factor than thought. Would have figured it would make the prestige up one notch at most, not more than one.

I don't think that's a general rule, but when you're inside 70 miles, it changes the game on who you can go after.

70miles is a magical factor. You can potentially sign D1 guys in the 70 mile radius, and recruit some D2 guys straight up.

I believe there is also a small randomness (the preference element) to how a recruit reacts to each school, so even without the 70 miles he might have talked to a school with less prestige and blown you off...but the 70 miles certainly contributes.

i dont think you are right on the first part.

it was definitely the 70 miles. OP - i used to think it was about 1 letter grade, not the third of the grade you suggested. but i think i was wrong, i think iguana is the one who told me that within 70 miles, everyone can recruit who an a+ school in their division could recruit. what i haven't been able to confirm is if that really means a+ schools get no benefit in 70 miles, but i have since seen schools grab players that they would be 2 full grades off of, except for the 70 mile factor. so i think iguana had it right.

At my d2 got the number 124 pg - likely because he was 20 miles away.

gill, if I'm wrong (which I probably am, but who knows, right) how would you explain other situations I've seen where the 70 miles wasn't involved where a lower prestige team got a backup response from a recruit that blew me and my higher prestige off? Of course I forget all the pertinent details now, so maybe I am distorting the whole thing, but that's how I remember it...
