20 Total- 0 PG, 1 SG, 3 SF, 11 PF, 5 C. Fair to say that the system hasn't been corrected as it should be, as there's only 1 guard that went EE.

Looking at the numbers, only Billy Wallace at UConn was really questionable.

2 from non-Big 6 six teams and those 2 are definitely good enough to go.

St. Johns lost 3 and LSU lost 4.

good work here stine.  Was this draft cycle under the new rules or the old?  New, right?  Definitely seems out of whack as if things were under the old rules.

Yeah I coach UConn and losing Billy Wallace was a total shock!! I had him lined up to start this coming season and he still had room to grow in REB and LP so I was expecting big things out of him. Now im left looking for a replacement and have to do it recruiting against Pitt, 'Cuse and St. Johns

Thanks for posting stinenavy. I thought it was an odd EE and rollover all the way around.

Zona wins the championship, but loses nobody early. However, lsu, who lost in the title game, loses 4!

Memphis finishes 12 th in CUSA loses one, but the conference champion (Marshall) who is a 1 seed with an E8 apperance loses nobody (and they have salty players).

Vandy loses 1 with a 38 rpi and first round exit AND loses prestige (perhaps they will get it back when their player is drafted) despite only 3 straight PITs prior to this year.

LSU and Miss St were both in the FF with strong A prestiges to start the year, and they stayed at A's, not an a+ bump.

Just a few examples of weird results from the tweaks, at least compared to the old system.

I concur that billy Wallace leaving is questionable. And like you said, I thought the changes were supposed to make it more likely for guards to leave early. What happened here?
7/7/2012 2:29 PM
What happened is that the process wasn't fixed the way it was supposed to be. Last time the issue was brought up for the Phelan and Naismith early entries, seble brushed it aside.
7/7/2012 3:20 PM
Wasnt' the "fix" that there would be a more proportionate ratio of guards to bigs drafted, not declaring early?

If so I think youre going to see this happen for a while because in the past none of the guards have gone early and many very good ones went undrafted at all meaning there are going to be plenty of very good senior guards to balance out the draft without having to pull ones from EE.  However ALL of the good bigs seem to declare early, meaning that there really isnt much depth in the pool of senior big men meaning that they're going to have to continue pulling from the EE pool.  I suspect in time this will balance itself out but may take a few seasons

I'm not sure, but I commented on our CC that it seems like this was following the old EE logic (I mean, just the breakdown of bigs vs. guards is beyond glaring). Hopefully this was intended and it's not following the new logic until next season, in which case we have nothing to worry/complain about.

stine, I didn't brush anything aside.  I'm collecting results for each world as it goes through the process.  Every season of every world is different.  Some seasons there are a lot of good big guys, some seasons there are fewer.  That's why I need to collect a significant amount of data to make any conclusions.

bow2dacowz brings up an important point.  The change to ranking of players for the draft was not specifically aimed at underclassmen.  It was just to balance the overall draft class more.  The number of underclassmen in a given draft is small enough that sample size can be a problem.  So when I'm looking at the data, I'm not looking at underclassmen, I'm looking at position breakdown of the entire draft, including seniors.  I'm also including guys that were projected high but decided to stay, which is not info that's really available for you guys to see.

Seble, I am impressed by your dedication... Saturday night response!  Wow.  Of course, I am the nerd reading it....

Knight's season ends tonight and there are at least five junior guards and four sophomore guards with the ratings to be drafted. Seven of the nine are top-25 overall rated.
7/7/2012 10:58 PM
I just find it strange that my team lost Billy Wallace when he only started 1 game this season and was not even in the Top 25 for players at his position. I mean if you even compare him to the players listed above there is a huge difference in the quality between him and the other players at PF in the JR class. I know I obviously can't control who goes EE but it just sucks when a player you figure has no chance at declaring, goes pro and you are left with a huge hole at a position you didn't think you would have to worry about bc quite frankly I didn't think Wallace was that good.
7/8/2012 1:41 AM
its no solace to you, but I'd guess he was at or very near the bottom of players that were eligible to go pro, and if the toss of the dice had gone differently on a couple of the higher rated guys he'd have maybe stayed if i understand the new system correctly...like I said, no solace, you still lost your guy (but seble is right that there is no where near enough data to make any changes yet...sorry...)
7/8/2012 1:45 AM
yeah dacj, I understand that there's not enough data yet and Im trying to not come off as complaining or anything bc I understand that it EE's happen and you have no control over them. I guess whats bothering me is just trying to understand the new system and why certain things happen. So when it comes down to it the biggest issue I am having is learning the ins and outs the new system and just accepting the fact that I was that unlucky person who go hurt by the system taking its bottom ranked player on the first run through.
