I have a question about a trade that I'd like to do.

I was stuck with a guy who is aging (good talent though) but a 20mil a year guy.

I like him but I don't really think I want to pay him 20 mil a year when my team needs pitching.

So I was going to trade him for some prospects and then look to sign a decent replacement for him and a decent starter.

Is this a good idea?

I was going to trade him for

This guy

Would you do that?

Thanks so much!

Those 2 SSs aren't ever going to be good SSs. I believe you can get more than this.

So, no. I'd keep shopping.

Horrible offer.

2 very poor bats and a mop up type pitcher.

Your guy is an MVP calibre hitter.  Especially god fit for Milwaukee, and with a 99 makeup he should be an MVP calibre player for a few more seasons.

somebody look at my team please and mentor me.

That offer is borderline insulting.  Your player is a beast, and probably worth every last bit of the 20 mil.

There is an HBD mentors thread where you can go and pick an experienced mentor. Also, keep asking questions in the forums, and read through them as much as possible - I've learnd a lot from reading the answers to questions I wouldn't have thought to ask. I spent 6 season stubbornly insisting it was my money and I'll figure it out on my own, and for 6 seasons I sucked. The first three seasons (all still in progress) I started reading the forums and acting on the info, have netted 2 postseason berths (so far - I could theoretically make it 3-3 but that looks unlikely).

Wow...that's an offer I wouldn't dignify with an explanation for turning it down.

The team you took over went to the DCS and lost to the eventual NL Champ.

I fail to see why you think you must trade one of the superstars who helped make that playoff run possible.

IMO the biggest mistake newcomers make is thinking they HAVE to make changes to their team when they really are ill-equiped to make informed roster decisions.

Enjoy the team and rather than making major roster moves, just observe, read the forums and learn as much as you can before Harry Elcano leaves for FA.

I checked the WC and noticed you are asking questions about arbitration. The best way to handle a player's contract is to arbitrate him the first 2 times then sign him long term the 3rd time ( if he's worthy of a LT contract ). That way you keep the player for the maximum amount of years before he hits Free Agency. As for what to offer ... I usually offer roughly 70% the amount the player is asking. I'd offer $3M on the posted you posted in the WC.

Lol 70%? I've lost easily half of the arbs lately offering around 85%

The sim automatically offers 70% if you do nothing. Many times I offer less if the avg. league salary is lower and win.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Earl Willis

This pitcher was asking $1.3M season 22 and I won the arb case at 750k, less than 60%. Lost it this season though when he asked $3.1M and I offered $2.0M

Just an FYI, I didnt offer him that, its what he wanted. We've got 23 pages I think of talking about the deal.

He offered an even worse counter offer at first and told him I couldnt do it.  I had sent much better offer including Pena, and a similar SU man to Aspro (Canseco) plus Reichert.

As the former owner of the team, feel confident in saying he definitely should not trade either, nor should he trade both, Pena and Elcano
