Max Free Agent Offer Reject Topic

I offered one of my pitchers,  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Bernie Fernandez the maximum contract prior to free agency and he rejected it. He said he was testing free agency no matter what and so stubborn me wanted to prove him wrong.

Anyway, what is the point of rejecting my max contract when I can assume he is going to resign with me anyway? I get the hometown advantage, plus I went to the WS the last two years, had a stellar record, great BL pitching coach and play my games in Hawaii. I mean who wouldn't want to live in Hawaii?

Sometimes simmy likes to **** us off. Yeah it sounds like he will resign with you, but it won't be until late in FA, probably after coach signings, so, you know, plan accordingly and hope that you are right about the loyalty bonus (and past experience suggests that you are).

Best plan, at least what you should have done: Arb 1st season then do a 5 year contract. Not sure why you only signed him to a 3 year contract if he's so good.

In hopes that he resigned with me without testing free agency? I kind of thought that was obvious.

With a 51 patience, he is somewhat loyal and I've had a decent history of players loyal enough to resign with me instead of going to free agency if I gave them exactly what they wanted.

And yet you only gave  a stud SP only 3 years?

Again, I gave him exactly what he asked for - it clearly didn't work and I don't need a monday morning QB.

This also has nothing to do with the actual topic question of this thread, but thanks for the solid contribution.

It actually has plenty to do with the topic, if the point really is finding out why he wants to do this to you. The answer to that is that it's because you signed him to 3 years when you could have signed him to 5. The player asking for 3 years does not preclude you from going 5 for a stud, which with a 51 mediocre patience is not Monday morning QBing but an answer your question. If the point was just to whine, you are correct that the response has nothing to do with it.
