General Recruiting Question - Me vs. Simmy Topic

I'm out of $ and the kid I want to take my last scholly isn't considering anyone. The scholly was offered and he's responded positively to anything I could afford to throw his way (calls mostly), but he also responded positively to being redshirted next season. I've got A- prestige but can't do anything else with $2.

What are the odds he actually chooses me over any other SIM school at the end of the recruiting period tonight?

If he's not considering you, he's not going to sign with you. With no money, I'd pull the redshirt and see if he gets on the considering list.

If you end up with the situation in the future and you really want the guy, you can just do a promise 10 minutes and scholly to get someone on the cheap.

Pull the redshirt even if he was OK with it?

Yes, if he's not considering you.  The redshirt has negative recruiting value.  It's like multiple anti-visits.

So if I offer minutes & he comes & gets redshirted, then what's my ramifications? Massive WE loss?

yes

Well I guess I'll take that chance over a walk-on.

He still might take the redshirt without the recruiting notification, it just won't be 100% chance that he'll take it with no WE drop.  You could always take off the RS notification, hope he considers you and signs, inform him of the RS and see if his WE drops (or just drops a small bit).  If you don't like the WE drop, you can take it off but don't bother putting it back on as that has changed and it'll only get worse.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. With the last $20 I had in phone calls before the 1 o'clock recruiting cycle, I took the RS off and promised minutes and the kid signed at the 4 o'clock recruiting cycle. We'll see how he likes the RS after tomorrow.

if you promised him minutes he will freak out on you if you try to RS him.  you'd have been better off just taking the RS off first to see what happened and then go from there with offering minutes if you had to.  if you offered him minutes youre going to have to play him.

You would have been better just notifying him of the non redshirt. It's going to be a big WE hit.

The minutes are irrelevant.  Once you've informed of non-redshirt the guy's not going to take it without a massive WE hit.  Period.

if you break the minutes promise by forcing a redshirt he is likely to transfer (and suffer a huge WE drop)

Its been awhile so I don't remember, but won't he take a hit to his coach prestige as well?

If a player transfers due to a broken promise, he'll take a hit to his reputation, yes.  I think Osborn played this one badly, but just chalk it up to experience.  We've all made mistakes before, no big deal really.
