Ending the recruiting cycle with excess cash Topic

Is there any advantage to this at the D-1 level? I think I read somewhere that only 1/4 of the cash moves forward with you for some reason, so I was wondering if there was any advantage at all to saving some for next season. I was considering trying to end with ~$6,000-$8,000 left, so I could carry forward at least enough for an extra CV or two next season.

I have never played Div-1, and could be wrong, but I doubt there is any difference to the benefits of having that left over money then there was in Div-2/3 you played.

remember that carryover only occurs if you fill all your scholarships, so oftentimes it may not be worth it if it means signing scrubs just to fill the roster...

Well, there's obviously the advantage of more money the next recruiting season.

Keep in mind, though, that you only get that carryover if you fill all of your scholarships.  If you take a walk-on then you don't get it.  (If, however, you sign a JUCO and he doesn't show up, you still get the carryover.)

Or if you don't have any scholarships to fill at all, you carryover 100% of whatever you have (tourney $ or carrover from previous season).

Ah, I didn't realize that you had to have 12 on your roster to get carryover. Since I don't plan to carry 12, that completely solves that issue for me. Thanks a ton!

Once signings happen, you should at least attempt to find another good player to add to the class. Don't feel like you need to, just maybe FSS a few states that have possibly decent-looking players left over. And if you can find a good player, get him.

See, I've hard the exact opposite about recruiting to a small school like Campbell. I was told you should always carry a couple of open scholarships, for the added cash it gives you in recruiting the next season.

If you don't fill your scholarships then any leftover cash is wasted. So he's saying you may as well take some of it and FSS some states that may have been passed over (like the small NE states) and see if you can find a "diamond in the rough" type. Don't take a player just to take a player - you're better off taking a walk on and the added 15k next recruiting than being saddled for four seasons with a player who can't play at the required level. But if you find that project player with all blues and key high highs, get him.

Disclaimer.....you made it to Div 1 and ask these questions?

I've never taken it super seriously until this season. D-3 and D-2 are pretty easy to win at. Sorry my knowledge base of the game isn't up to snuff for you.

Do you really not understand what I'm saying? D-3 and D-2 are relatively easy, but D-1 (I've heard) is a lot harder. Hence the reason I'm asking questions of those who know more about D-1 than I do. Given that you're not in D-1, and you have only 2 conference championships in the lower ranks, apparently you're not one of those people. That's not a slag as much as it's just saying, "What's your point in commenting on this thread?"

I've got no idea what your malfunction is. You seem to have trouble understanding that I'm just saying that those two divisions are fairly easy COMPARED TO Division 1. As you are not a D-1 coach right now, you're not really my target demographic for the questions I've asked. I'm not claiming to be the best coach out there. Clearly I'm not. But neither are you, so I'm not sure why you're all over me for asking a few questions I wanted some clarification on. It's posts like yours that cause people to not even want to visit the forum as much. If you don't like my threads, feel free to not visit them.

Somehow, I'm sure I'll survive.

To be perfectly honest, I was thinking the exact same thing myself.
