Starting Lineup from the Island of Misfit Toys Topic

There are some talented players on this team, but with some unusual skills.  Who is your starting 5 from this group for a D-II team?  (We run FB/FCP, although switching to tri).

Name Yr. Pos. A SPD REB DE BLK LP PE BH P WE ST DU FT TOT
Michael Marlow So. PG 47 74 11 56 2 18 37 76 54 67 85 55 B 582

My inclination is always to get the best 5 on the floor (Brehmer, Arteaga, Yandell, Bradley, Braud).  But can you run Brehmer at PG?  Arteaga is a turnover machine with the BH/P, but has the highest LP & REB for SG in D-II Iba.  Yandell is the highest rated REB at SF.  And PF Braud's SPD & BH (at least compared to the rest of my team) make me want to play him at the 2 or 3.

Am I crazy for wanting to start a lineup of 1-5 of:

SG Brehmer
PF Braud
SG Arteaga (or Yandell)
SF Yandell (or Arteaga)
PF Bradley

Or should I go with Marlow at PG, with Brehmer Braud Yandell & Bradley, and bring Arteaga off the bench.  What do you do?

My inclination was Marlow at the point and then everyone else you mentioned with Yandell coming off the bench. I don't know about FB offense, but for FCP defense I'd think the higher defense and athleticism combo would make Arteaga more valuable as a starter with Yandell coming in vs. the opposing second string, where he'll be both a better scorer and hopefully less of a liability with the 37 Def. Arteaga's stamina would ensure Yandell got plenty of minutes nightly, so I don't think you're losing any significant PT by not starting him.

I'd go with the highest ath/spd/def combo you can while you run the FB/FCP.  Passing isn't all that necessary in a point in FB, so don't feel you need to typecast Marlow in there (unless he just happens to fit with the ath/spd/def).

this might be an actual use for the player roles feature...

I say you start your worst players during conference, just to make sure they are REALLY your worst. ;)

Oh man that team could be a disaster running FB/FCP with those speeds,

PG = Marlow, significantly better as a PG than the other options at that position
SG = Cotner, a better scorer than Harris while being similar as a defender
SF = Brehmer, one of your best scoring threats
PF = Arteaga, better than the other options
C = Bradley, best player overall on both ends of the floor

If you are going with a three-guard rotation, I would run Harris as backup SG, while moving Cotner over to PG when Marlow needs a break.

Braud is a reasonable backup big at either position.  He is a weak defender, but as a backup might not get exposed, and he is a reasonable rebounder and can score a little bit.  And even though he is a weak defender, he is better than Keith and Yandell.

Unless Keith and Yandell have high potential in key areas (specifically ATH and DE), they are not worth having.  With their current relatively low ratings in those two categories, they are both liabilities.  You might want to look for some JUCO help in this recruiting cycle.

Leaning towards this.

Marlow, Brehmer, Braud, Arteaga, & Bradley, with Yandell leading the second unit.

Yandell shouldn't be the leader of the cheerleaders.  33 ATH is a liability on a D2 pep squad.  He'll rebound some, but the poor ATH will keep him from scoring nearly as efficiently as his excellent offensive ratings might otherwise suggest, and when you pair it with 34 DEF he'll get scored on more than that self-esteem challenged girl who hooks up with the whole team in one night and then brags about it for 2 months.

Seriously, I knew that girl once.  It was actually pretty sad.
