Two more FCP questions Topic

1. What % of teams run FCP?

2. Wow, really? Why so many?

real life or HD?

HD, of course. Where everybody, rather than nobody, runs it.

I run it, why?  :shrugs: was what the team ran when I took it over and I am not expierenced enough to try switching either offense or defenses

I have questions:
#1. did you lose last night?
#2. would a team of 12 yr old girls playing zone have taken the ball away from your horrible guards?
#3. is it really the fcp... or maybe a deeper issue that's troubling you?

Get better players or do something else,

I don't believe the FCP made you shoot 11-21 from the free throw line in losing a triple overtime game. And they weren't playing an FCP anyway, but a zone/press.

#1. No, yesterday afternoon.  Yes, to a press team.  I was happy to get that far in what I considered one of a couple of transition years.
#2. Maybe.  I did okay against the press this season.
#3. I have a great many issues.  Deep and abiding ones.

Thanks for your questions.  I'd still like to hear answers.

I don't believe that either.  That 11-21, combined with an ill-advised uptempo offense, is absolutely what caused me to lose that game.  If you wanted to find a game I might be griping about, you wouldn't have had to go back that far.

I actually wasn't referring to any game in particular.  FCP has been a topic of interest in the forums lately and I generally agree with rogelio's stance.

Thanks for your reply, and your help in the past.  And sure, the second question is asked in a fairly flippant way.  I'm genuinely interested in people's answers to both.

Quite awhile ago, they acknowledged that FCP was kind of a sham and that they were going to scrap it entirely as a base defense.

They should do that.

Here's the thing, zags.  In DII Knight (the relevant world, but I assume others at D2 & D3 would be similar), the Sweet 16 was composed as follows:

10     Full Court Press
4       Man-to-Man
2       Zone
0       Combination defensive teams

There is just no way that reflects the actual composition of college basketball.  The reason is obvious, running FCP provides too great an advantage over other defenses as there is no need to have greater stamina than your opponent running a different system.  I would suggest that the composition should be more like this:
1       Full Court Press
7       Man-to-Man
2       Zone
6       Combination defensive teams

I also suggest that the game would be much more interesting if it were.

D1 Crum looks like a relevant world to me.... NT just ended.

Sweet 16

14 - teams ran M2M, 3 were combo m2m/fcp with better IQ's in M2M.
1 - ran zone (running zone only because they are my previous team and I refuse to run man)
1 - ran press ( my current team)
Wow, looks like M2M is overpowered.... the sky really IS falling

(D2 and D3 are much more like 10 press to 6 man.)

Out of curiosity, what did D2 look like?
8/7/2012 1:19 PM
I'm not jumping in to be part of the huge argument, but just to make a point: HD's press kind of makes sense. Not from a RL perspective in terms of non-stop running I guess but from a divisional perspective. The fact is HD's press is most effective at DII/DIII because the disadvantages are just much easier to overcome there. In DI it is much more difficult and the standard Man defense is the best - and M2M is easily able to compete at the highest level in any division, as it should be. This does mimic real life in the sense that at lower levels, gimmicks are probably much more prevalent and work better, whereas at the highest level that's not the case. This makes perfect sense to me. Honestly, before the press needs to be "fixed" if that's your preference, it's zone that needs to be fixed so that it's at least a viable option outside of DI.

Press - 8
M2M  - 6
Zone - 0
Combo (Zone/Press) - 2

I really don't think the press is "magic" - although if you have a really superior roster at d2/d3 - it makes that superiority look even nastier.
