Waiver Wire Contract Question Topic

If I claim a guy off waivers am I responsible for his contract or not?  This guy is owed 12 million a season for 2 more years after this season.  I don't want to be stuck with that contract, but I'll take him if I only have to pay him 327k each year.  Thanks!

Yes, if you claim him you also claim the contract. He's probably on waivers because the owner is hoping someone will take the contract off his books.

Unless he was released. Then the releasing team is responsible for the portion of his contract above the league minimum. There is rarely is a good reason to release a player.

If you do pick up a guy that's released from the waiver wire who has additional seasons left on his contract, and the final season is either a team or mutual option, it will automatically be declined.
