Step A - Decide which defense you're using: zone; zone/press; or zone/press (practicing only press & moving to press full time in the conference schedule. Assuming you will play zone this season (Step B is at the end - decide what you are missing and target that during recruiting), the remaining steps:
- Of course Jenkins is your PG. The problem is SG. Stowell looks the part, but his defense is awful. Since you have to start Jenkins, then you might prefer to start a guard with high speed and defense to offset Jenkins' weak defense. Vinson might be the answer with Stowell coming off the bench at PG & SG to jack up 3's. Sweet should be buried deep on the depth chart unless he has some blue ratings in core categories.
- Zone teams need rebounding. Lawson has the best REB rating, but his ATH is too low to start. So Morris starts at C, backed up by Lawson.
- Jones could play SF, but Greig's LP is much too good and PER much too mediocre to play him as your SG. So, Greig is SF & Jones PF; backed up by Dejesus & Gowan, respectively.
Step B - You need 2 quality recruits to take over at PG & SF next season. One of those 2 might be a transfer or JuCo guard that could start right away (high speed & defense), but those can be expensive to recruit and may not be worth the risk.
