Is there anyway to predict which of your players are going to be worth compensation picks? I know they stack up the free agents and rank them and the top 20% are Type A, etc.. But how do they rank these players? Is it by ratings or statistics?

Ratings.   Seems the breaking point is around 75 overall for everyone but C/RP.   But, no, there is no surefire way to know.

Look at the draft orderings from past seasons to see who was given Type A and Type B compensation, then look at the players to get a sense for the Overall Ratings necessary to earn that compensation. It will vary a bit between worlds and between seasons.
