What do I do with this guy? Topic

Stan Wright is one of the jewels of my farm system. Sadly. He's projecting as 77 vs.LHP, 82 vs.RHP. He's got 91 control and a 95 groundball/flyball. He's got a 90 fastball, an 83 slider, a 56 change and a 60 curve. BUT: His durability projects at 18, and his stamina at 59. What is he? A starter who can't go deep? A reliever who can rarely pitch? Has anyone had this kind of 'tweener before, and what did you decide to do?

If you want to maxmize his IP, you start him and you'll probably only get 25 or so starts with a 65-70 TPC.

If you want to use him in higher leverage relief spots, you'll be able to use him more often as his 59 stamina will mitigate his low durability if he's only throwing 2 or 3 innings at a time.

Start him.  I always start my best pitchers if they can throw 50ish pitches per outing.   Build my staff around that.

The same Stan Wright already in his 5th season, topping out at 68/82 splits .. 82 control .. 58 stamina? One might ask why he's still in AA for a second season... He's 23 and could/should be pitching in the majors. I'd use him as a Setup A, for maximum impact.

js, I immediately thought of Matty Clyburn in Riley.  He's had a great career as a starter.  But like Mike says, you'd have to build around him.

If that's him, he's a good pitcher but not a guy I'd build my staff around.   Still a SP though.

No matter how good a guy is, I just don't see the wisdom in using a guy who maxes out at 4-5 innings a start. I've seen too many times when bullpens, given 4-5 MORE innings to blow it, do just that. A matter of philosophy, I guess, but I'd rather have the hammer at the end than the beginning.

I was thinking someone along the lines of Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Arthur Relaford

I have to move him back a day every now and then.  Because of that, I have a 29, 31 and 39(42STM) DUR in my rotation.   I also have a bullpen that can handle the load when the 42 STM guy throws his short, but more frequent, game.

I'd rather know exactly when I'll be swinging my hammer.

I had to doublecheck .. Matty Clyburn is way, way, wayyyy better than Stan the Caddie.

Well, you never know, esp. when alcohol is involved.
