Sheffield 2001 has 19 1b#, 4 2b#, 0 3b#, 5 HR# & 15.21 BB/100.

Abreu 2002 has 18 1b#, 8 2b#, 1 3b#, 2 HR# & 15.18 BB/100.

So, Sheffield totals 28 hits# and 15.21 BB and Abreu totals 29 hits# and 15.18 BB -- but Sheffield has higher (slighlly) BA# and OBP# numbers, .311/.416 to .310/.412.

How can Abreu have one more hit number and equal walks yet be rated lower?

You're looking at the normalized stats for the hit rates and they're from two different seasons, and the BB rates are not normalized. Then the AVG/OBP stats are normalized.

Each hit rate stat is normalized independently and as such may not add up exactly to the hit/ab rate that gives the normalized AVG or OBP as those are also calculated independently.

Further, I believe is displayed in truncated form, so Sheffield's 19 1B/100# may be 19.9 while Abreu's 18 may be 18.0, etc...

Well, that makes sense. Thanks.
