When are low splits a deal breaker? Topic

I haven't seen a player with such polarizing ratings.  Can he have any success at the plate at the ML level?  He has no power and his splits are extremely low, but his contact, eye, speed, and bunting are each well above average.

Don't expect any success at the plate at the ML level.  But he could be useful as a bench guy as a pinch runner and defensive replacement for CF/2B during his pre-arb years.

Never seen a guy like that before. I'd expect more of what you've gotten out of him so far.

He's a PR and so-so defensive replacement at CF/2B. He's the kind of guy you might want to stash at AAA and bring up as a specialty guy for the playoffs when you can go with less pitchers.

0 fer 16 to start the season. Did that answer your question ? Haha

He's not someone I'd want to start but I do find him interesting.    With his ratings, he'll get some infield hits.   I don't think it will be nearly enough to warrant anything more than D-replacement or rest AB but that might make him worth keeping if you have an extra spot.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Hal Rodgers had 17 infield hits in 530 AB.

I've found that there is almost a logarithmic differentiation between a rating in the high 80s and high 90s. Burks' at 100 might have had an OBP over .400 and Milligan could struggle to get over .300. Having two key categories at 100 would most likely far eclipse Milligan's potential performance.

Shhhhhh. Not sure everyone has caught on to this. ;)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I picked him up as an FA this season mostly because I've never seen anyone with ratings like his. So far, I've been using him as a pinch runner and defensive replacement. Looks like that's what I'll continue to do with him.

I always have 1-2 guys like this on every team I manage.  They're cheap to acquire because most owners never give them a look.  He'll have an OPS around .650 to .700 with 80 steals and some plus plays if you use him every day.

If he hit lefty or switch there would be a big difference I think in the number of infield hits...just saying. I am fairly sure that WIS does have that built into the game but I'm not positive. It seems like a lefty with speed normally does better for me than a righty with speed.

Not sure about lefties but, as a whole, switch-hitters outperform their ratings(which, if you know this, it's no longer true because SH is a rating of sorts).

Seeing that in most worlds, RHP outnumber LHP by around 60-65% to 35-40%, the advantage that left-handed (or switch) hitters appear to have is most likely more of a by-product of demographics rather than something that is specifically built into the game engine.
