Weird Recruiting Result Topic

So I know many times on here it's been mentioned that a lot of people believe that Simmy's don't do any late recruiting. Maybe this is an example to the contrary. Either way, it's really weird that it happened this way.

I was looking at a recruit on my D2 list (as a D3 A+ school) and got a backup message from him. I scouted a couple of times to see if he was someone I'd be interested in and was pleased with the reports. I had just finished up a battle that consumed well over half of my budget, so I had limited funds to devote to him. So I decided to wait to see if he fell down. Going into the final day of recruiting, I had spent about 8 ST's on him and a scholly offer, and he hadn't fallen down, and after having recruited the other players I wanted, I was left with enough for about 2 ST's and a guaranteed start. I sent those around the 5PM cycle and crossed my fingers. At the 8PM cycle he declined my start saying it was meaningless as he wasn't that interested in playing at my school. At the same time, a D2 SIM appeared on his considering list, and I prepared to accept a walkon. However, at the 11PM cycle, he sent me the falldown message, but he still wasn't considering me. Then I checked again at 1AM and all the sudden he had signed with me.

I have no idea how or why this happened, but I was very pleasantly surprised to have signed the player. It was very odd that a D2 SIM showed up on him in the waning cycles, and that despite that, he signed with me even though he was never considering me and I put no extra effort into him in those final cycles. Anyone have any clue as to what might have happened?

I've never seen that, but it seems like in order to be added to the considering list then there has to be some additional effort rather than just considering credit
