When reading the play by play, do you look too much into it or is it just the engine describing what was simmed and jumbling everything together?

In this case, (Not my teams) this happened last night in the DI National Tournament in RUPP in a really great game - reading through the PBP however I came across this.

Against a -5 Man to Man defense, the SF blocked the 3 of a PG (1 vs 3?) ... I could see this scenario in a 3-2 zone.  However, what is the SF doing playing a PG in a man to man defense?  The PG wasn't being double teamed, and a -5 in man to man would have me believe the SF would be sagging deep.

*"Michael Dukes knocks away the 3 by Richard Barry"*

Was the SF guarding the other SF and in the motion offense and the offensive SF was close to the PG allowing the Defensive SF to block the shot?

Or, did it just sim this way?  And in the sim, the PG just missed the shot - and at some point the SF got a block and the PBP just made it window dressing by lumping the two together in the same possession in OT?

I think people are just nitpicking the pbp now. Maybe it was a high screen where the point guard got loose in the corner and the sf made a great defensive effort. Or Barry beat the other point guard off the dribble to take the 3 and the sf stepped in to defend against it. There are millions of possibilities where this kind of stuff happens in real life basketball.

My first thoughts were a pick and switch happened. Seems simple enough.

Yah, that's a great point, Tianyi.  Can't really see what's going on in the Motion set or where the players were positioned, and pretty much how I could see the SF getting the block - by stepping in or being in the vicinity of the shot.  Great play by the defender no doubt, and I could hear Verne Lundquist getting excited on that particular play, just found it fascinating with a SF blocking the trey of a PG in a -5 man to man set.  More variables at play than I had given the code credit for, is what it boils down to I guess.

and, I wouldn't argue that at all kneeneighbor

This is simple - the SF blocked when he went for help defense. It's quite realistic.
