Power Conferences? Topic

I've heard people say there are certain power conferences that are designed by human coaches in various worlds. For example, someone mentioned in DI Rupp there is a seventh powerful conference and others are trying to create an eighth. Also, someone recently mentioned the DIII power conferences in Wooden.

Is there anyone who can post a list of the human created "power conferences" and what world they are in? I'd be interested to know what they are, as I'm sure other coaches would (if they don't already know).

Great Northwest Athletic Conference in Smith is becoming a power conference at the D2 level. Highest SOS/RPI in the world for a few seasons running.

That's good but I'd like to see if anyone has a list of power conferences that are full or nearly full of humans who have made them dominant for many seasons.

As power conferences in the real life Big East the past few years mode, and upper tier as dominant in a sense but not quite a power conference..For the DIII worlds I'm in.

Wooden
:
Power conferences: Upstate, Minn, Midwest, Michigan
mid-upper tier: a number of them...

Smith:
Power conferences: none
upper tier: SoCal, Northwest, Minn

Crum:
Power conferences: none
upper tier: Centennial, New England

For the record though, while I find all 3 worlds fun, Crum is still my favorite world. It's so wide open every year without certain schools having a tremendously huge advantage over others, which imo makes it great fun.

Allen:
D1: ACC
D2: Gulf South
D3: NAC

Arguably three of the biggest super conferences at their respective levels in any world.

Knight D3: SoCal (declining), Heartland, Upstate (to a degree, three A+ programs, one A-, but the other eight teams are SIMs)

The OP's question, though, is which non-BCS DI conferences have been "BCS good" in recent years.  CUSA-Rupp, for sure... Allen had the Ivy and the Big Sky maybe ten to fifteen seasons ago... what else?

That wasn't his question.

My question is what are the power conferences at every level (DI, DII, and DIII) that people know of - but when it's DI, I mean other than the "big 6".

I've just heard so many people make reference to creating or having a power conference or something similar, and I know each world develops differently. That makes for very different dynamics. I'm in four worlds myself (probably about to go to three) and I know each one seems to have a different "feel" to it.

I wish WIS would tell us how many human coaches are at each division in each world. Other than seeing messages of "there are X openings in Y world at DIII" there seems to be no indication of how many humans might be at each level.

At Rupp D3 the Great Northeast is a power conference and the University Athletic Conference is 2nd tier.  After that, it's pretty wide open.

the GLV in tark at the d2 level (and maybe the glv MIAA too) has been among the toughest conferences in the game for 3 years. i think the ACC in allen is probably the most impressive conference in the game.

i think people are mostly talking about d1 with the term "power conferences". the bcs conferences ARE the power conferences and its always been a challenge/dream of many coaches to turn an a-10, cusa, MWC, etc - into a conference on even footing with the BCS conferences.

i created a conference dynasty list that you can look at too, if you want an actual list. you can always search "list index" in  the forums to find my dynasty list index thread that links to every dynasty list ive put out there (although when they changed the forums, some of the early ones broke). scroll down to the last post before "reserved" and thats the most recent.

i did a couple conference dynasty calculators - all-time greatest dynasties (in a range of years, like 10 year, 20, 5, etc), and current conference dynasties. i haven't updated it in several months but its probably pretty relevant. IMO, when its fresh, its pretty damn accurate, but its always relatively impossible for a person to compare dynasties competing for the "best" (whether its a single team or a conference, there are so many extenuating factors you need to take into account to declare the "best" - was the feat accomplished in a more competitive world? etc) - so how could a program do it? anyway, heres the current dynasty list thread (contains all the different # of years), and the all-time dynasty list thread

Iba A-10 was really good a couple seasons ago (they were definitely on footing with BCS, had a few NC winners), and now there's a good A-10 in knight and a developing Phelan (10 coaches).
