Is my comp pick protected? Topic

My draft pick is 17th because there are three Type D comp picks before my selection, but my waiver wire position to start the season is 14th, based on my previous season's record. Is my first-round pick protected or not?

Yes

Thank you, sir. You are approximately 5.5 hours faster than CS.

Then I'm slipping.

Dissenting opinion:

"Thanks for your note. If you sign a Type A free agent you will lose your first round draft pick if your pick is greater than the 16th pick. Type D picks are not included. This is outlined in the KB Article #775."

That's basically an exact quote of the cited knowledge base article. So I won't be chasing any Type A free agents, then.

Not dissenting opinion, just a case of CS poorly expressing itself.

Type D picks are not included is referencing the possibility of Type D picks being lost, not Type D picks being included in the calculation.

Go through your world and you'll likely see this issue in past drafts for an answer on how it really works. In World Major Leagues, for example, look at Season 14.

Boston had pick #9 as a Type D, moving Colorado to Pick #17 from #16.

Colorado signed a Type A FA.

Colorado did not lose its first pick, instead giving up Round 2, Pick 88 for the Type A.

Moral of the story - C.S. sucks, and often so does the Knowledge Base.

The wording is not very clear, you're right. Thanks for citing a real example. So maybe I will be chasing Type A guys! I wouldn't think Type D's would matter, and apparently they do not.

Or "MikeT is seldom wrong".

The pick is protected.   Natural 16 are protected.   Been there, done that.

That's why I called CS's response a "dissenting opinion." I expected other users to know more about it than them; I just had never encountered this situation myself.

Updaete: "The first 16 true picks are protected. Type D picks are not included so if there are three Type D picks in the first 16, then picks 17, 18 and 19 are protected."

I've heard that somewhere before.....
