You have 8 returning players, so you have some depth with experience but no depth at the LP. Depending on the IQ of your recruits (hopefully you get some with knowledge of both Zone and Man), you should be ok playing man all year. To help boost everyone's IQs a little, I'd devote 5-10 minutes to man IQ and take those minutes from zone and your offense time. 5 will probably be ok to squeeze out a little improvement. I would under no circumstances play zone this year so all the practice time this year is in essence bonus for next season. You still want to put the most defense practice there to help for the future, but preserve some for man this year. If your team is doing poorly by the midway point, just go ahead and drop the man minutes and put it into zone.
Switching o/d is really about a 2.5-3 year process.
