Recruiting message meaning Topic

In my recent recruiting session in Naismith, I got the following message from a player who was considering only my school well after signings had already begun. I'm not sure who was promising him anything since he wasn't considering anyone else or why he didn't sign sooner (he ended up signing with me a few cycles later). I was thinking about it now and went back and found it because its confusing and I wanted to know what everyone thinks of it. Here's the exact message:

Hey coach, your scholarship offer really means a lot to me. I can see myself at St. Lawrence next season. But, another school is promising me a way to make my own name for myself. That's awfully appealing. I just can't decide yet.

Again, there was no other school on his considering list, so why did I get this message and what did it mean (beyond making me wait longer before he signed)?

He may have seen a thread on What If Sports a few months earlier about a certain coach who believes that running laps as punishment actually helps increase a player's work ethic and simply had a few reservations about actually committing to play for said coach.........but that's probably not the real reason.

LOL emy

Anyone on what the real reason might be?

i think you just haven't put in enough effort to make him "feel" 100% for your school. that's not to say he won't sign with you when signings begin. it's along the same lines as "the family tells us he's not sold" from FSS

He already did sign with me it just took one or two cycles before it happened.

I thought it might be something like that. Still, it's odd when he says another school was offering him something when no one else was even on his considering list.

It's just a window dressing message imo.  I've had the same situation more than once, and they've always signed immediately.  That is, they considered me for a cycle after I put in the effort, then they signed the next cycle.  It sounds like that's what happened, and it's not unusual.

Window dressing message. Recruits are compulsive liars.

these type of messages where you go after a kid no one is on after signings start don't really mean anything. Assuming no one else interferes you'll always sign him the next cycle.
