Are there any consequences for offering an ineligible guaranteed starts and minutes? I'm assuming it can only help him show up on campus and doesn't follow over to the first season he's eligible to play. Is this correct?

yes but there is a chance he passes his eligibility before the end of recruiting after he's signed and if that happens you have to keep the promises
