RS Freshman Minutes/Expectations: Topic

Will a player coming off his RS season have any expectations of more minutes, or will those expectations fall in line with those of a traditional frosh?

Thanks.

From everything I have seen, he will react as if he is a freshman when it says he is a freshman, sophomore when he is stated to be sophomore, etc. I've redshirted many players and it has aligned that way every time thus far.

I RS a guy every year on 4 teams. Yes, he will react as a freshman. No complaints or WE drops.

Thanks vegas, as well. I was thinking that they would react like a true frosh, but wasn't sure. Appreciate the info, coaches.

I try to use the redshirt as often as possible. Might as well give one guy more time to improve talent and IQ, keep him longer at his peaks, etc.

I actually get angry sometimes when I can't make an RS work. I get over it quickly but I like the RS that much.

I've been using it more lately-when I was just starting out I didn't bother with it-mistake.
Now that my D2 program has fallen into a rut I'm going to have to utilize that RS more often, like every season. Thanks, all.

Sadly, he'll also treat his academics like he's a true freshman all over again, so allocate study hall minutes (if any) as though he's a first year student, not someone who has been in college for a year.

I guess it's somewhat realistic to expect freshmen to struggle academically considering how many would be college graduates drop out every year when they realize you might actually have to work to pass classes or do well there.
