Quick Development Question Topic

Is is possable for a player improve a particular rating 70-80 points over the course of his career?  Or is there a cap on ratings that are high/high?

If it is possible, how high of a Work Ethic does he need to have to reach this potential?

yes, its possible, but different ratings have different amounts they can go up. per and lp are probably the only two that will actually go up 70 or 80, and its fairly rare, but it happens. his level of work ethic largely depends on how much else he has to practice, how much playing time he gets, starts, etc... if you just want a simple rule of thumb, its probably relatively fair to say, if a guy starts at 40 work ethic or higher, you will probably at least get within a few points or so of his caps.

Thanks gillispie, that answers my question.  In this case I am talking about the LP of a freshmen who starts and has a 58 WE....hoping that rating stats blue for a bit.

My other question would be how does off-season development work?  What should I expect as far as gains?

off season improvement depends heavily on WE, but there is a significant random component, too. you can usually expect a couple points gain per category for good work ethic guys (60+). stamina is the one place you often get hammered in the offseason - especially with low work ethic players.

did you send the player an eval/scouting trip to find out if his low post was low-high or high-high? the low-high means 21-27 points improvement, high-high is 28+. for per and lp, getting a high high is a big deal, because it could be +30, or it could be +50 just as easily, and sometimes +80.

Offseason development is you gain some, you lose some. I haven't noticed a clear pattern except that you pretty much always lose stamina.

I didn't get the full scouting report, but he has already gained 12 points and his rating is still blue, so I'm guessing he was a high/high guy.

yeah, he has to be high/high in that case. how many practices, and how much are you practicing that? and how much is he playing? if you sort of watch those factors, along with work ethic, you have all the keys to improvement rate... and you can get a good feel if he potentially is near hitting black (20 pts left) or not. in your case, if you are still early in the season - non conf just finishing or so - that is a good sign for his improvement. i can give you a better guess with the rest of those details i mentioned.

It IS possible to have great rating increases like the OP talks about.

I had this guy start out at an LP of 35. He's now at 81 and he went from blue (high) to black (average) when he was at 79, indicating (from what I know) he can max out at close to 100.

However, as someone else said, I've never seen such massive improvement in one category unless its either LP (like here) or PER, which I've seen in a few other guys.
