I am planning on going to DII in Iba. I am going to try something I have not done before. I am going to use only 10 scholarships to have more money for recruiting. We will run triangle and zone. I thought triangle was the way to go because I will only have at most 3 seniors. The class setup will be 3,2,3,2. Each class will consist of a guard and post. The class of three will consist of a small forward too.

What do you guys think?

recruiting fewer than a full roster to use extra money for battles is nothing new and works well for many coaches. I see nothing wrong in theory with your class structure, but redshirting could mess it up, unless you don't redshirt, which is probably a mistake since it really can help the lower WE many highs guys get closer to maxing out. I also like to redshirt my PGs so that they have the extra IQ...

Recruiting at a school in Southern Florida would probably take away from the extra money advantage because of the distance right?

well, in a way it makes the advantage more important if you want to reach out past your immediate area...

Oh ok makes sense. I was thinking for poaching but that makes sense.

Most coaches are better than me as I don't have the self discipline to not recruit with open schollies and a pile of cash. Toss in ineligibles, red shirts, early entries, and unhappy players leaving it's all to difficult for me. I try for what I think I can get. Sometimes the getting is good and sometimes it's unpossible.

you can have goals like that, but as jennings said I think you need to follow the talent pool.  If there are gettable quality guys close to you who break that plan, I think you need to grab the talented players and figure out the roster structure around the available talent.

It's a fine plan.   I wouldn't be married to it but it's a great backbone.

Well said.  Too often coaches (me included) are rigid when it comes to their recruiting plans.  Have the plan, but if you should happen across a gettable talented player above your plan, go for it.

Ok sounds good! I might try this at a mid-major school in DI so I can try and get better players with the extra money.

there's enough good d2 players in florida (131 in smith) it is the 4th most populous state. you may need to be more selective in recruiting, rather than a shotgun approach - but the location of your school can work to your advantage, too...florida is a bigger state than many think - mileage wise. and typically has about the same # of players as georgia & alabama combined.
d1 is a totally different animal - you gotta watch out for the big boys that lose their recruiting battles, as a mid-major will look awfully attractive when it comes time to poach a player.
