Student in the classrom and on court Topic

- Below average student in the classroom and on the court.

I can't find anywhere where it states what this actually effects, and I just spent the last hour looking for it.

Is this strictly for IQ and GPA or does this also have a effect on rating improvements?

Does this have a effect on your own personal decision making during recruiting?

I've always thought it also impacted the speed of growth to WE as well...and I only really paid it any attention when I was running combo D's. Any more it's more of an icing on the cake sort of thing...if he's above-average in the classroom, awesome. If he's a bonehead, well, then he's going to fit in perfectly with the coaching staff...

From what I've heard on here and my own experiences, when the report references anything regarding "in the classroom and on the court", it is talking about GPA (classroom) and basketball IQ (court).

Basically, the higher a guy's GPA, the faster he will improve at IQ, and the less study hall time you have to give him, meaning he'll improve in other areas faster since he'll be able to practice more. However, in my experience, a low GPA is MUCH easier to overcome (use study hall time as freshman and maybe sophomore, he'll get the IQ eventually) than a low work ethic (where he'll only gain a little even if you start him). Still, it's nice to have guys who had good HS GPAs for both practice time and IQ purposes.

OK, the ONLY thing GPA affects is how fast you learn the sets.  Doesn't affect learning skills.  And though you won't get HD to admit this, college GPA means, in effect, nothing, though the coach that got me into the game said it used to.   It is his HS GPA (and WE, of course)  that will forever determine how quickly he learns the sets.  You can take a kid with a 2.5 HS GPA, and through lots of study hall, smarten him up to a 3.5.  But he is still going to learn the sets at the pace of a 2.5 kid.  Did lots of pairings a couple of RL years ago that convinced me the only thing I had to worry about with college GPA is making sure the guy stays eligible.  Basically, a kid with a 3.2 HS GPA may never see a minute of study hall at my schools.  Can provide more detail via site mail if anyone wants it--think I still have the pairings in a folder somewhere.

Thanks from the people above. Good information. Until recently I basically ignored this aspect of the scouting report. Having played a lot of WIS games I know the games are very similar and GD  has something similar that equals how fast someone learns and I was wondering if this aspect is similar.

I believe the levels are: excellent, above average, mediocre, below average.  There's a pretty noticeable difference in IQ improvement as you go down the list, but I wouldn't make decisions based on it unless the players are nearly identical.

and gpa only affects off/def iq during their freshman season...i wish gpa helped soph - senior as well. then study hall minutes could be more useful.
