when it comes to making the post season tournaments...is the RPI or the Projection Report more accurate? and what are the "target numbers" to make each tournament? i know that the Projection Report labels teams as a "lock" for the NT through #30...but are you pretty safe to make the NT as an at-large at #40? and what about the PIT? are the teams through #80 a safe bet...or #90?

Projection Report is dead-on accurate, until auto-bids are taken into account. Count up the number of auto-bids who aren't ahead of you in the PR, subtract from 64, and if you're ahead of that number, you're in.

also remember to subtract any teams high in the projection report that have losing records - they will not enter the NT. (and this does happen once in a while)

I've stopped tracking this as much as I once did, but the last at-large spot in the NT for D3 generally falls in the mid/upper 40s (I've seen it be as high as 42 in the projection report, and as low as 52), At D2, with fewer conferences, that spot usually goes to a team in the mid/upper 50s. I've even seen No. 60 get into the NT previously. Sorry, haven't paid a lick of attention to D1 on the matter. (all numbers listed above indicate a team's Projection Report position, NOT the RPI)

Keep in mind the Projection Report keeps updating through the final round of conference tournament games, so if you're on the borderline, it is possible to be leapfrogged at the last second based on the results of the championship games in the conference tournaments.

It is really inconvenient when your wife gives birth during the postseason, but thats the way it goes.  There is the benefit that when the infant wakes up in the middle of the night and dad handles the diaper change or just getting them back to sleep, one can also check on overnight recruiting cycles.

I haven't had it happen (yet)  but I would imagine its more inconvenient when your wife gives birth during recruiting.

Someone once told a story of using an infant monitor or something that had an internet connection to recruit while at the hospital with a wife about to give birth, or something similar. I keep thinking it may have been alblack56, but that's just because he tells all kinds of interesting HD related stories, so I also think it could be someone else.

I repeated the story but didn't originate it.   Whenever the nurse would leave the room, the coach would use the hospital computer to recruit. When the nurse reappeared, he'd quickly close out and pretend he was interested in his wife's vital signs.   He said, "I'll probably go to Hell for this."

The really funny thing is that I can practically picture myself doing the same thing if it were the same circumstance. As long as the wife and kid are fine and you've got the time and the access, I don't see a reason to sit there and not recruit when you could be recruiting.

I guess what I'm saying is it's a funny story but it probably sounds way worse than it is.  If everyone was fine, I'm sure nothing was harmed by it.
