Why are these pitchers pitching so well? Topic

All these guys are pretty bad but they're pitching so well.  It has to be some glitch right?

If you havent noticed they're all on one team.  Can it seriously be just the ball park effect?  I would imagine they would get rocked on the road but they dont.  These guys lead the league practically in ERA.

They all have good pitches, and you could expect a 20% or so lower ERA at home than on the road (neutral). I agree that they're a bit surprising, but not overly so and I'm beginning to appreciate more good pitches especially if he has five that are 50+.

Hector Hayes is pretty solid. I think he'd pitch decent anywhere.

The rest, I think are a bit of an anomaly, but they aren't as terrible as most owners think, due to what booger referred to, as well as most (except Lowery) having great control.

Other factors include:
1) Tacoma is a SUPER pitcher's park, and while they aren't horrible on the road there is definitely a noticeable difference in the Home vs Away stats.
2) Pitching in the NL helps quite a bit.
3) and most importantly SSS. The season is only 68 games in. In HBD, even one full season is not really an adequate sample size.

If you look at a player like Lowery, you can see that in Fresno (also somewhat of a pitcher's park), his WHIP and ERA were significantly higher.

I don't know. When I see splits sub 50 unless EVERYTHING else is awesome these guys are little more than minor league fodder. If it was just the park I would expect these guys to get crushed on the road leaving them with eras in the 4s. Jameson for example with his bad splits also doesn't have good a gb or amazing pitches. Duran should be terrible. Not only are his splits AA quality his ratios are garbage too. 3 solid pitches shouldn't make up for that many flaws. I wouldn't think 2.5 seasons is SSS.

Pitchers will all very good ratings are superstars. Guys with weak splits and great control/velocity ... weak pitches and great splits ... great pitches and weak GB/Vel will be solid 3-4-5 pitchers. Those ratings all work together, with some more important than others depending on the teams you're playing, the park, the defense, etc. Jameson's 86 CON/96 VEL and decent pitches, along with a decent vL, is more than enough to make up for a weak vR/GB. There's not a lot of clarity on how pitches like his — with 54-59 P3-P4-P5 affect things. There's some benefit to having 5 pitches and some downside to having pitches in the 50s. Overall, having 5 pitches in the 50s likely helps him to a degree. Duran's ++ CON and 3 plus pitches with none under the 70s offsets those AA splits, and the lack of VEL is minimized by your park. They are not bad pitchers by any stretch unless you consider only splits, which is like judging real players only on their ability to retired either lefties or righties.
