Do you need to have space on your 40 man before the draft for the guys you pick up? Or can you make room after?

You must have room on your 40 as well as your ML roster.

I don't believe you have to have room on your ML roster to draft R5 guys, just room on your 40.  You would have to clear space on your ML roster to assign them, but you can do that after the draft.

Probably correct; I think I conflated the ML Roster with needing enough salary for the minimum plus the $50k.
