Should I draft an unsignable player? Topic

I have the 1st pick in an upcoming draft, and the draft class I can see isn't very good.  The only player I can see drafting Boone James, who is 20:
Event Season Height Weight OV RA GL AS AA PC DU HE SP PA TP MK
Current - 5-9 166 62 24 21 78 62 0 29 77 24 48 68 60
Projected - 6-0 173 87 29 24 92 86 0 29 87 24 62 68 66
Event Season CN PW LH RH BE BR BU PP ST CT LH RH VE GB P1 P2 P3 P4 P5
Current - 15 4 23 13 22 14 56 53 53 57 58 70 75 72 74 70 43 35 34
Projected - 19 6 34 18 26 19 78 56 62 89 85 97 91 86 83 80 65 46 52

He looks great except his super low stamina and I'm not well versed in drafting college players.  Should I draft him or look to punt by signing an unsignable player, and then try to get a type D and hope for a deeper draft next year?

62 is not "super low" stamina.  With all the other ratings, you'll get more IP's out of him than an pitcher with average ratings and 62 stamina.  He should be good for 4-5 innings an appearance.

I had a SP who was pretty similar to this dude:  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Alex Ortiz   But Alex had 24 67 dur sta and Alex nearly always went at least 5 often 6 and sometimes as far as 7 innings per appearance.  This dude if he makes his projections will be better then Alex.  But dafoods scouting is probably 14 so he wont make quite those projections especially if his training is only 14 too.  Point being if this guy gets really close to those ratings he should pitch at least an average of 6 per inning like Alex...  You gotta take this dude dafood.

Yeah my scouting is 18, training is 18 right now.  But I've never had high college scouting before on my other teams, I usually max out high school scouting.  4-5 innings per appearance seems super low to me for a #1 overall pick, but maybe I'm just picky.

Since he's already 20, is it realistic to think he'll come close to those projections?

18s are good, bring your training up to 20 next season for sure.  with 18 scouting those numbers should be pretty close.  But it also depends your coaching.  This game like MLB is a game of inches not miles.  Every thing you can do to get your best prospects to come close to their real projections you should do (within reason).  Like I said Alex my dude consistently pitched at least 5 and more often then not 6 innings which is enough for a win.  Your dude will do about the same, if I could get another dude like Alex I wouldnt think twice obviously.

I got a ton of flak when I drafted this guy #1 overall. Needless to say after 6 ASG, 5 Cy Youngs, a no-no, and a ring, I was OK with the results. He was also good for 185-200 IP a season. I think the ratings are comparable.

With his durability, I'd look to build a 4 man rotation around him. He'd likely be able to throw 5-6 innings a start, and get to 200 IP that way.

No, he won't.  He's legitimately a 170 IP SP1, ERA's of mid 3's in an average park with an average D, not a perennial Cy candidate nor Hall of Famer.  I'd love him at #5-- but at #1 he's not special, nor is he embarrassing.

I could go either way here.

So as you can see the definitive answer is.... dunno it's up to you.

Here's a good comparison: http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=3026236

He had even less DUR than your guy and has had 182-108 IP in his ML seasons. No issue going deep into games either. In 10 seasons he's a 6-time all-star and 4 time Cy Yound winner...too bad his shoulder exploded this year.
