We have three openings in the Ohio Conference this year. The Ohio was the #2 conference in Crum D3 this season, and the #1 conference (Freedom) has no openings, so the Ohio is the best available conference in the world.
And we were #2 in RPI this season despite having three coaches in the first year of rebuilds. As they get their legs under them, the conference has a real chance to turn the corner and get even better than we are now. And now is pretty good--we had two Final Four teams this season.
The openings:
*
Wilmington. This opening has literally everything I look for in a rebuild. Six open scholarships? Check. A competitive conference? Check. Lots of bonus money? Check. You'll have over $20,000 to shape this team in your own image in year one, which, in my experience, means Wilmington is primed to be making deep tournament runs by year three. All they need is the right coach. They also have a superclass setup (six open spots, six seniors), in case you're into that kind of thing. Were I not already in this conference, I'd be all over this job. Love it. Runs FB/FCP
*
Otterbein. The Otters (oh, sorry, they're the Cardinals, aren't they? they should be the Otters) may be a slightly tougher situation than Wilmington, but here you'll be able to win some games in year one and still make your mark quickly. You'll have three open scholarships in year one, plus bonus money, but you'll also have eight seniors at your disposal. This is a team that made the PIT last year and are certainly capable of returning to the postseason before starting a full rebuild (complete with the requisite 20 grand in cash) next season. C+ prestige, runs FB/FCP
*Fisk. I've noticed some on the forums expressing a preference for recruiting on the geographical extreme of a strong conference. If that's your game, Fisk is your school. The Ohio has ten teams within the state of Ohio and two teams hundreds of miles south. Fisk is one of those two. You'll have Tennessee essentially to yourself--there is only one other human-coached D3 team in Tennessee, and they have no Tennessee players on their current roster. You'll also have a free run at the border states, as there are no human-coached teams in Alabama, Mississippi, or Arkansas. Even better, you're taking over a human-coached team who has been to two NTs in the last three seasons. You get to start with B- prestige and three open scholarships. Runs motion/press.
Cliff's Notes selling points:
*Wilmington: six open scholarships. What more do you need? Also six seniors.
*Otterbein: eight seniors, three open scholarships.
*Fisk: ideal location, primed for a dynasty. three open scholarships. B- prestige to start.
*All openings: competitive conference, lots of bonus cash.
