You need several seasons at DII with some NT success. In one world I managed to get to DI with five seasons at DII and two NT appearances which went to the Final Four and the Sweet 16.

Alternatively I've seen people get into DI with less NT success but a lot of seasons at DII (10+) with some success, OR many seasons of success in the post season at DIII can also qualify you for a DI job.

Look at my Smith resume for the route I recently took to DI. I didn't have any NT success, but I had three 20+ win seasons and some trips to the NT / PT. That was enough to land my choice of a couple dozen D- teams.

Guys I have 6 seasons with 4 post season trips in a row.

I think general wisdom is that two consecutive NT berths (even without advancing) will qualify you for a handful of D- jobs. Not 100%, but I think that does it.

In the 2 worlds I played I qualified for D! in both after 3 DII seasons.  In Knight I went elight 8, 2nd round, then PI, and qualified for D- and a few D DI jobs.  And in Allen I went to 3 straight sweet 16's and qualified.
