Ineligibility question Topic

I've asked this question before, but I'm trying to refresh my memory of the responses. If you recruit an ineligible player and he comes to your school and is ineligible (every ineligible player I've recruited that has arrived was eligible for their freshman year, so I don't know how much effect that has and I don't know for sure how to treat the situation) I remember being told just to put all that kids minutes in study hall for his first year. Is this consistent with everyone's advice?
Secondarily, I received this message and don't know how it will effect this recruits ability to get into the school or whether he'll even show up: "Coach, (player x) just got his SAT results back. Based on his GPA, he needed a composite score of 1020 to meet the WCAA Clearinghouse requirements but he scored a 521. I'll let you know if I hear anything else." Does anyone have any thoughts on what effect his poor SAT score has on whether he'll show or not?

Thanks.

1. If he's ineligible, put all the minutes into SH.
2. I don't believe the SAT emails have any impact.

This doesn't answer all your questions, but in D3 players can play right away and I'm assuming their ratings can progress as the season goes on. In D1/D2 they can't play and don't progress so that's why you should put all their practice minutes in SH.

Yep what Stinenavy said, in D3 they are eligible right away, put practice minutes in for them based on there position and potential and GPA.  In D1/D2 they sit out a year and don't progress skills during the season, don't practice with the team, all minutes in study hall, they will progress during the off-season based on their work ethic.  Sophomore season is back to normal.  They make a decision on if they want to come back for a fifth year based on playing time and the like.  I've not seen an ineligible not come back for a fifth season, fourth one playing games/practicing.   The SAT email doesn't mean anything other then based on their GPA they need a certain SAT score to become eligible, some kids will become eligible during the recruiting process by getting the test score they need.  Off-course with ineligibles they go juco and not show up to campus, I've seen estimates in the forums of 20%-40% they don't show up.  People tend to be scared of ineligible players at D1 and a bit of D2 and some steals can be had.  They're paticularly great with a defense like the zone where less depth is needed each year, and you could also redshirt someone else if you wanted too.

There are a lot of factors to that.   In my experience, the two biggest ones are:

1. How good is the ineligible
2. How much money did you spend on them

I have signed lots of guys at d2 that showed up for $110 but mostly they weren't that good.  As I started to recruit better players (particularly drop downs) they stopped coming when I only spend the minimum.  I had a guy NOT show last season that I sent a few CV's too.  He was pretty good.  I just signed another ineligible for my d2 team in TARK.   He's pretty good and I only spent $130, on him.   I don't think he'll show up.

I spent a good amount more than $130, but not at all a significant amount. My memory suggests I spent a bit over $500. I found him late and thought he was a good and overlooked player. All the ineligivles i've found have actually turned out pretty well.

Im not 100% sure about this but you should be good since you are D3 and he will be eligible to play right away no matter what.
