What is the minimum required to get on a player's considering list?

Depends on lot of factors. The player, time left in recruiting, if others are recruiting him, stuff like that. Absolute minimum is a scholarship and a start, $110.

How about if I don't want to commit to a start, will a scouting trip do the trick sometimes?

probably not. I've had 4 evals do it lots of times.

I signed a player with a scouting trip and a scholarship a couple seasons ago.

Okay, thanks.  I am just trying to figure out how a guy has seven players considering him in D3 with only two scholarships open.  He is a pretty successful coach, so I am sure that he is not just throwing his money away on a bunch of guys that he will never get.

he probably offered starts and has them all listed for $110 each...maybe plans to either start whichever 2 he takes or can "convert" them later once he knows which 2 he's locked in on by informing redshirt to clear promises...

Okay, that makes sense.  Thanks.

This is one of those things that depends upon the player. Some guys will sign for lower amounts than others.

I've had guys who (as far as I know) have never considered anyone and a scholarship and a home visit won't get them to consider me (and a home visit is more valuable than a scouting trip).

On the opposite end, there are of course the guys who beg you to consider them and put five colleges on their considering list for no reason, LOL.
