How do people go about resting position players? Topic

I have a couple guys in the mid 70's to mid 80's. I just wanted some ideas on how other people rest their guys to have the fresh at the end of the season?

If they have low durability, look to set up your vsR and vsL lineups with platoons from the start of the season.

One other thing that I specifically do is, after the all-star break, I'll try not to play a guy below 98%.  So I'll be checking and tweaking my lineups on a game by game basis in the second half of the season.  I'll break that rule in "September" (i.e. last 30 games or so) if I'm fighting for a playoff spot and feel that I need to push them harder.  And once a playoff spot is secured and my seeding is locked in, I'll sit them to try to get them back to 100% for the post-season.

Mid 70s-- rest every 5-7 days (unless a catcher, then platoon).  Find something his backup does almost as well and look for matchups for the rest days.
Mid 80s-- rest occasionally.

I generally pick days on either side of a scheduled off day, and rest my low durability guys. That way they get the benefit of 2 consecutive days off. I very rarely have durability issues at the end of the season.

My rule is that guys from 78-83 rest two out of ten games.  Guys in the low 70's rest three games.  Near 90...just one game.   For example...I have game #90 coming up this afternoon.  #91 see's my SS( Dur. 82) rest.  I can get about 140-144 starts from him at 100%, so once in a while I'll rest him two games in a row.  Game #92-#93, I will rest my 2B (80 Dur.).,  Game #94 I will rest my 3B (98 Dur).  Games #91-93 I will rest my CF (70 Dur).  I have a RF (72) that I usually sit against lefties (he hits them great...but it is an easy way to get him his 3 days of rest out of 10 games).  My LF (77) rests 2-3 games.  My principle bench guy has defensive numbers of 72-73-82-80.  He plays 3B-LF-RF, and then when I rest my 2B, I move my 3B over and my bench guy plays 3B.  I platoon a catcher.  Sounds complicated but isn't.  I'll repeat after game #100.

I roughly figure that a guy with 70 Dur can get about 70% of the starts.  80 Dur can get about 80% of the starts.  90 Dur = 90%.  That keeps all my guys at 100% until well into the 2nd half of the season, when I occassionally have to rest a guy an extra day.
