Left-handed third baseman Topic

Is there any defensive penalty in the system for a 3B who throws left-handed? I have a guy on one of my teams who has the arm strength to play third, but he throws left-handed, and I was wondering if this would hurt him.

Follow-up question: has anyone seen a lefty catcher in this game? If so, how did he do?

I have never tried but look at league leaders for errors and negative plays an see what you find.

Yes, there is a penalty for it.

Never seen a LH catcher but, if you have a guy with decent PC, you could try it.

Alex Matos played a bunch of left-handed 3B in a world I play in.  In the 6 seasons in which he was a regular 3B his fielding ratings were 81/83/81/79; despite that, he made 12 (-) plays (against 1 (+) play) per 162 games.  A guy with those ratings at 3B, throwing right, would be about +20... it's a significant penalty.

Thanks for the answers. I'll put him in the outfield instead.

As for the catcher, I don't have a guy, I was just wondering if there ever was one.

Interesting thread. Is there any other penalties like this? Maybe at shortstop or 2B?

Yes.  Left handed throwing 2B, SS and 3B are all penalized.

Omg I'm glad I read this thread. I moved my CF from last year to 2B this year,.... and it turns out I am GUILTY of playing a lefty at 2B.

We all were, at one point in time.
