I'm returning to the game and wanted some input on pitcher evaluations. I used to look at durability, control, left and right splits, and pitches 1-3. Am I missing anything. I feel in my league guys put less emphasis on control values. I would love for you to shed light on how others evaluate a player even if it overlaps my thinking.

DUR affects recovery from fatigue, not pitching performance.  Stamina indirectly affects pitching performance by reducing in-game fatigue. Also,I don't care hardly at all about P3, and would elevate GB/FB to the level of P2-- but I place more emphasis on GB/FB than most players.

Stamina (how many pitches he can throw during a game) and durability (how quickly he recovers between appearances) are only levers on how many innings he can throw, not effectiveness.

The primary ratings I look at for effectiveness are control, vL, vR, and pitches 1-2 (not in any particular order, though I'd say vL is the least important of them, IMO). They all work in conjunction with one another. Which means one of them being low can be offset by the others being high.

The secondary ratings are the other ones, GB/FB and the other pitches.

Personally, I think owners put too much emphasis on control.    Got Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Ryne Narveson in trade because his owner insisted on 70 control.   I'll dip into the mid/upper 40s if the other numbers, mostly splits, are exceptional.   Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Andres Jimenez

I rate pitchers on different levels.   2, 3 and 4 pitch pitchers have different values.    2 pitch are short relievers, 4 pitch are starters or LR.   3 pitch can fill any role.

Control is certainly overvalued in HBD, at least compared to MLB.  In MLB, you routinely see highly regarded RP's with BB/9 rates in the 4.5 to 5.0 range or higher.  That would equate to mid 40's to 50 or so control in HBD.  Yet many HBD owners treat those kinds of pitchers like pariahs and won't touch them.

xubrad I'm actually on the durability bandwagon.  I would definitely rather have Highdur+lowstam than Lowdur+highstam.  That guy Narveson was at what seems to be the max SP durability (33) and then Mike gave him the ol medical bug and he got him up to 35 dur which means you can run him down in-game to 0% and he'll still definitely be ready every 5th day and possibly/maybe/probably even every 4th day.  Low durability is a huge Milo.  I also agree with Mike it seems like control is probably overvalued also.  P1 seems like it could be a bigger factor to a pitcher's success than we think it is, also

Which way does the ground ball/ fly ball ration lean. Does 0 mean all fly or grounders

Nothing ever means all.   0 creates the most FB.

Anybody ever try to "fudge" a FIPS  number from the ratings?   I'm thinking 13*(1-gbfb ratio)  plus 3*(1-control) minus 2*velocity.
