I'm looking to reserve a team in one of these two worlds at D1 - I had a miserable run at Marshall in Tark and have vowed to stay away from that area as it's just too difficult for me to recruit. Anyone know of some great areas that may have open schools?

You can try Boise St in Knight.  There was a coach that had GREAT success at Idaho, see: http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/History.aspx?tid=12882 
He has since moved on to Clemson.  Idaho, Montana & Montana St are SIM and you'd be in a conference with a handful of other humans (including seble), but they are far enough away that you aren't battling for recruits.
