has anyone ever tried this? Topic

Has anyone ever tried to have the locks for national tourney in their ct basically tank because they know they're in and allow the bubble teams and maybe even the outer ones win the ct and get the auto bid and a stronger resume. this allows your conference to have more games and airgo more recruiting money next year this is more money at d1 than d3. but just curious if anyone's ever tried this leave your thoughts on this as well

People have done it and I am sure people do it. I haven't seen anyone complain about it in awhile but it is certainly against the rules.

I remember a thread maybe a year ago where a coach mentioned he was considering doing this.  After getting **** on in the forums for even bringing this up, he backed down but his team still happened to lose in the CT championship to an inferior bubble team.

I don't understand why anyone would even consider costing themselves a CT championship just for the sake of another undeserving team making the NT and likely being one and done against a 1 seed.  At D3 and D2 that would earn each team a whopping $250 and $416 extra, respectively.

thats basically the definition of collusion.

three or four years ago admin posted in our coaches corner (big east tark i think) and said something like "its been reported that some coaches may be throwing games,  that is against the rules and we will punish offenders if this continues"

I sent a ticket and asked what was up.... you just made our whole conference  look like cheaters.. who was it?  are you accusing me?  their replies made me about as mad as i have been in HD.  basically said it was not a big deal and as long as i dont violate rules ive got nothing to worry about.  wouldnt comment on whether they thought it was me or if they suspected multiple confmates of mine.  just kept saying,  dont worry about it its no big deal.

no big deal?  this is my fake reputation youre talking about!

seriously, if you are thinking about anything that involves conference mates banding together for the collective good (ala tour de france)  that is not good.
im usually a mindmyownbusiness ,guy but if i suspected something like this, i would call bullcrap.

The problem, of course, is that a more deserving team would be  bumped from the NT and, thus, be deprived of the extra recruiting money

This.  It's basically cheating or collusion, whatever you want to call it.  Ergo, bad form.

if you decide to do it, better keep your mouth shut about it. I would never do such a thing, but even if it had entered my mind, I don't think I would. After all, why would you want to risk getting a slightly lower seeding for a bubble team. 90% of those bubble teams(the true bubble teams) are going to be done anyway after the 1st round, so probably not worth it. The risks definitely outweigh the rewards here.

I did it about 7 years ago not thinking of the ramifications........not worth it, you screw a good team. Look at it this way its better to not help a non deserving team than to screw a deserving team
