In the rule 5 draft it gave me a player that is on the DL and injured for more then 130 days. The game won't let me offer the player back until he's healthy again. WTH? What real life team would draft a player like that to begin with, and I can't even get rid of him? I'm doubly screwed.

I thought that if you don't assign him to your big league roster by the end of spring training, he automatically gets offered back. The game can't force you to assign him, can it?

Ignoring your question(because I'm not sure what it is), he's a pitcher with an elbow injury.   You have 18m in medical.   Put him on your BL team, add him to the 60 day DL and enjoy the benefits of the magic of medicine.

Ah. I see what Mike is looking at, he's worth a shot. And let me know if I'm wrong, but if you keep him on the 60 till next season, won't you actually get to keep a Rule 5 pick without blowing a big league roster slot on him?

Yep.  60 day DL keeps him off your 40 without actually taking him off your 40.  Or you can take him off after roster expansion and get some use out of him.

Honestly, this a little roster manipulation that I hadn't thought of until this instance.   You can draft an injured guy in the R5 and stash him all season.    And the medical recovery might make him worthwhile.

I've had minor injuries to players I intended to offer back(20 game replacements types) that I dropped on the 60 but I've never drafted an injured player in order to do what I suggested.

That player might not normally have been available in the R5, but his previous team does not appear to spend money on Medical.

Some interesting advice here that I never would have thought of. Thanks for this input. So I should assign him to the major league level and put him on the 60 day dl at the same time?

You don't have to do it at the same time but, yeah, add him to the BL team then 60 day DL.    Costs you the minimum for the season in the worst case scenario.

Thanks. I'm glad I decided to post this here.

There have been teams that do this in real life as well.  http://bronxbaseballdaily.com/2012/04/yankees-rule-5-picks-headed-to-the-dl/  The quote at the end of the article:

The Rule 5 draft rules apply after they are healthy – they either have to stay on the team all year or be offered back to their original teams. If they aren’t on the active roster for at least 90 days each than the same Rule 5 rules will apply next year.

In HBD, I don't know if the same rule applies where the player has to stay on the roster next season if he doesn't spend enough time on the roster this year.

Pretty sure it doesn't.    As I said, I've DL'd R5 guys early in the season and left them there until roster expansion.  They'd have to be active half the season to reach 90 and they weren't.

If you don't draft any players in the Rule 5 draft is there a way to see the results? When I choose Results it just says "You didn't draft any players"
