Number crunching to find the right overall fit Topic

I read a post earlier that got me thinking. He (sorry forgot who it was) mentioned that when he is to make a decision on who to start as his perimeter players he adds up their individual totals for: PER, BH, ATH, SPD, & LP. Now, I'm sure that offensive & defensive sets have a hand in determining the best overall fit for whatever system is implemented.

With that in mind, are there any formulas used for each position (PG, SG, SF, PF, C)?

If so, can you please share your vast wisdom with a newbie like me?

Thanks!

I don't know how valuable (if at all) these "base" formulae are (or the feature overall for that matter) but you might find some value in the Player Roles feature. Look under the Coaching tab. This will show you the current (should be the default) formula for each position. To see how your players rate with those formulae I believe you need to click "edit" on the right side for whatever position, where you can input your own values and see how your roster rates.

Yeah, I would play with the Player Roles. I use it in recruiting especially, but I think many people have their own personalized formula (some people prefer speed to ATH, for example, and weight it accordingly).

I'm not sure anyone wants to give away their exact formula, but many of us would be more than happy to share what we believe to be the most important ratings for any particular position.

The first basic "formula" I came across in the forums was a coach saying for D3 players (I translated it to poor prestige D2 players as well) is that you want a players speed and athleticism to add up to 120 by the time they're done improving. Another thing to keep in mind here is that speed is more important away from the basket and athleticism is more important inside. I have noticed that sometimes forwards or centers can get away with being a little slower but if your guards don't have at least average athleticism they're probably going to struggle.

Also this isn't really a formula but it for outside shooters you're going to want perimeter, speed, and ball handling especially (not sure what the order of importance is though) and inside you'll want athleticism, low post, ball handling and if he shoots good free throws that would really nice. Slashers are really a combination of the two and I've actually really started to like that type of player more especially in my guard position to try to get him to the line as often as possible.
