The press is magic.

That was a heck of a good program you faced...... 2 RUs,  a Final Four, 2 Elite Eights and 2 Sweet 16 in the last 7 seasons.

I don't believe the press is magic, however.   I've won 19 titles at DII and DIII....... 11 with a press and 8 with man2man

woah, wait a second... you have 19 titles? i thought you recently got #11 or something :O i guess thats not across IDs.

should let chapel know in that thread so he can put you in the appropriate (very high) spot in the overall championship count across IDs list :)

edit: i see you actually got #12 on alblack with #2 at mars hill. awesome =)

At a quick glance you probably should have won.  With the being said, he out SPEEDed you at the 2 and 3 which probably led to the 3 point difference between your teams there.

Flex, without good passing, is more vulnerable to a press than any other offense without good passing.   Uptempo was probably the wrong way to go; normal might have been the best choice.   It was an upset, but it was never a lock on a neutral court.

Excellent.

But it kinda is. And it goes without saying that the engine is broken.

Peace. Posse out.

Awesome gratuitous drop of title tally, allblack. ;)

I would much rather face a good press team than a good man team.   Good press teams take advantage of teams with deficient offenses.   Good man teams take advantage of all offenses.

With that being said, it's much easier to build a good press team.

ummmm.   im confused.

the press team lost...right?  opponernt played m2m i think.

eureka's obvious weakness is extremely weak rebounding for such a strong team.  and that definitely hurt them.  and uptempo limitd their one decent rebounder to less than 20 minutes of play

still, i would have figured them as a favorite and would be suprised thier defense didnt dominate to the degree youd expect.

here is something i have been struggling with ALOT lately...  high ath high def gaurds with mediocre speed.... and eureka is built on these type guys.  its tempting to believe that these guys are superdefenders... and maybe they are.  but defense tends to be very hard to isolate and evaluate each players impact and the value of that impact.

i thnk alot of folks use the "120" barometer for d3 gaurds... that is,  to be any good they probably to have ath+sp>=120 (in most cases). so,  when you look at a 60ath60sp60de guy... hes gotta be awesome ..right?   well,  maybe.. but that 60 speed is awfuly pedestrian,  and maybe the 60 ath doesnt help as much as we would hope.

which gaurd would you prefer?   75ath55sp...   or   50ath70sp   ?

i think we all prefer sp over ath in gaurds,  but by how much?  is it 50% more important.  or twice as important?  is it more important in certain sets or more important for offense or defense?  i suspect if anyhting it is more important in press... which eurkea played.. but thats a guess

i dont mean this as a knock on eureka.. i still agree they are a relly good team regardless of speed or rebounding issues  and if i was ds id be disappointed with the loss too,  but it does bring up a topic that i think is interesting

Slow guards will kill you against 3pt shooters.

I suppose this is the game in question?

This is what happens with the press, it's a high variance defense. When you have the superior team, you want to lower variance, not increase it.

And on top of it, the team looks good on paper in terms of averages, but isn't an elite D2 team, much less a D2 fcp team that punted reb. Elite D2 teams start 70/70 ath/spd back courts with at least one elite PG, and one player with excellent Per. The bigs should also be 70+ in ath with 85+ reb. This team doesn't come close to these metrics.
