After playing this game for 10 years, I'm still trying to make sense of it.  I know they had made a tweak or two in the past few years to give the better rated rebounding teams an advantage.

Explanation of why a guard will have a 6 or 7 rebound game, despite a single digit rating.

How much does IQ play a part in rebounding?

If you're playing man to man defense, are you paired up with that player when deciding a rebounding? What about a defensive team that switches off the screen in a man to man defense?

On offense, how do you tell where the SF is positioned when running a particular offense? For instance, if I have an excellent rebounding PF and put him at SF, how do I utilize him to be able to get more offensive rebounds.

2-3 zone, should it be automatic that excellent rebounding SF that plays down low, would be able to get more rebounds vs. a 3-2 zone? What if he needs to cover the perimeter player in the corner, does speed play a factor here?

Do you think there should be a more in-depth explanation on how all of this works?

I don't think a lot of those are considerations of the engine (but I am not really sure). Thus, rather than more in-depth explanation we would need a more in-depth engine, which I am frankly not 100% confident they can deliver based on what people are saying about GD

At times, in determining who gets the rebound seems very random. I suppose it's possible to figure it out, based on the play by play, but it would take a lot of work and possibly many hours of researching it.

That's proportional. I think the SIM decides which team gets the rebound and then decides which player on the team gets credit for it.

And if I'm not mistaken they take position into account so some positions do have a higher chance of rebounding, and I think I remember seeing that shooting could affect a players chance of getting the rebound but I've noticed more than a few occasions in box scores where the shooters get their own rebound, even from range.

I thought there was a patch to make rebounding more matchup based. It does seem random most times.

They said they did that but I don't see evidence just by looking at it.   It might be there but just not obvious to my dumb ol' naked eye.
